Our Alcohol-Free Pure Vanilla Flavor is extracted in vegetable glycerin made from rapeseed oil (sometimes called “turnip seed”), which serves the same purpose that alcohol does in a traditional extract. It cannot be called an “extract” because the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requires that anything labeled as an extract must contain alcohol. The flavor comes exclusively from real vanilla beans with nothing else added. The vanilla is extracted with alcohol, and then the alcohol is reclaimed and replaced with glycerin. No alcohol remains.
